Wind Design Workbook v2.0 is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for the calculation of wind speeds and loads to BS 6399:Part 2:1997. It can be used in Excel 97 or Excel 2000.
I have now completed version 2.0 of this spreadsheet and I invite Engineers to download a free copy.
If you have difficulties downloading a copy, please e-mail me and I will send a copy by attachment to e-mail.This software is still free of charge and is fully functioning. There are no restrictions on use and the spreadsheets can be customised with your company's name. Please feel free to pass on a copy to colleagues. This spreadsheet is a personal project, which I still regard as being in the testing phase. By way of assistance, I will be pleased to receive comments and suggestions.
The workbook (spreadsheet) implements the full Standard Method of calculating wind loads for buildings in accordance with BS 6399 : Part 2 : 1997. Wind speeds and loads are calculated in four orthogonal directions. The workbook contains spreadsheets, which can be printed as complete calculation pages. It also contains spreadsheets, which can be used as design aids, useful for hand calculations or checking designs. A further aspect of the workbook is its usefulness as a teaching aid for anyone struggling to come to terms with the code.
There are seven full-page calculation sheets. These are wind speed, wind speed with significant topography, overall building loads, wall loads, free-standing walls, flat roofs and duopitch roofs. In addition there are twelve sheets of design aids for the quick calculation of factors and coefficients including hipped and monopitch roofs.
The Engineers who previously received the earlier version should now receive the new version by e-mail. If any have not, my apologies and please download from the web site above. Also please note that I have changed the spreadsheet’s name from Wind Designer’s Workbook to the simpler Wind Design Workbook.
Regarding discussions in the IStructE forum on potential copyright violations, I invite anyone concerned to download a copy for review and to contact me if any specific areas of concern are thought to have been found.
